A ventoinha segue a regra antiga.
Abra o OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
Sim.
OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) is a free project that lets you install newer versions of macOS on Macs Apple no longer updates. It gives a new life to many MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iMac models. But many people notice the same side effect: the Mac starts running hotter.
Why the Mac runs hotter
There are three main reasons, and it's almost always a mix of them:
The new macOS asks for more. Recent versions have more visual effects, more background tasks and more intelligence running on the Mac itself. A 2015 or 2017 processor works closer to its limit.
Without graphics acceleration, the processor draws everything. If the graphics patches aren't applied, the graphics card sits idle and the processor does its job.
The fan follows the old rule. The control stays the same: fan at the minimum until the processor gets quite hot.
1. Check the graphics patches
Signs they're missing: stuttering animations, gray transparencies, a slow Mac that runs hot doing very little.
Open OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
Click Post-Install Root Patch.
If patches are available, click Start Root Patching, enter your password and restart.
After every macOS update, the patches disappear and need to be applied again. It's the most common cause of “my Mac suddenly started running hot again”.
2. Give it time during the first days
After installing or updating macOS, Spotlight reindexes the disk, the Photos app analyzes the library and several caches are rebuilt. On an old Mac, this can take a whole day with the processor busy. Leave the Mac plugged in with the lid open and only judge the temperature afterwards.
3. The Mac won't sleep with the lid closed
On some Macs with OCLP, macOS starts believing an external display is connected. When plugged in, it doesn't sleep when the lid closes and spends the night on and hot. We explain the diagnosis and the fixes in Mac won't sleep with the lid closed.
4. Raise the fan minimum
With the processor working harder, it makes sense for the fan to start helping earlier. A minimum of 2,000 to 2,500 RPM usually keeps an old MacBook Air much cooler during light use. See which speed to choose.
Ventfreedom was born on exactly this setup: a 2017 MacBook Air running macOS Sequoia through OCLP. It keeps the minimum you choose, restores it on its own after a restart or when another app changes it, and puts the Mac to sleep when the lid closes with no external display. It's built with AppKit, without the features that tend to fail on older graphics cards.
5. Make the system lighter
In System Settings › Accessibility › Display, turn on Reduce transparency and Reduce motion.
In System Settings › General › Login Items, turn off whatever doesn't need to open on its own.
Prefer Safari: on older Macs, it usually uses less processor than other browsers.
Frequently asked questions
Does OpenCore Legacy Patcher make the Mac hotter?
It doesn't heat the Mac by itself. But a newer macOS asks more of old hardware, and without the graphics patches the processor does extra work. That's why it's common for the Mac to run hotter after the upgrade.
Do I need to redo the Root Patch after every update?
Yes. Every macOS update replaces system files and removes the patches. OpenCore Legacy Patcher usually lets you know; if it doesn't, open the app and apply them again.
